Director of Resources and Business Change
South Gloucestershire is recognised as a place that’s really going somewhere and it means exciting times lie ahead for both the area and the new director – it’s the powerhouse of the West of England economy and this is an opportunity to be engaged in the council’s journey as it helps to drive success.
The council has a strong track record for robust financial management so we will be looking to you to build on that through innovation and by exploring new ways to generate income. You won’t need to be an accountant, but you will need to be comfortable with numbers and have commercial acumen.
A major change programme is already underway; including modernisation through a new digital platform that goes live in April 2019, an agenda you will take forward. Your remit will include leading a large and diverse department so we need someone who can take a strategic approach and bring the different areas of the council together around the commercial agenda. There are real opportunities to join up different areas of the council and the ways we work. If we get these things right it will deliver for the customers, staff and council.
South Gloucestershire is an area of stark contrasts – from picturesque towns in the south Cotswolds to vibrant urban areas on the northern fringes of Bristol. Its booming economy is a hub for the aerospace and defence industries and includes the region’s major out of town shopping centre at Cribbs Causeway.
With high housing and economic growth expected across South Gloucestershire in the coming years, the council is going through a process of modernisation to ensure it’s ready for the opportunities that will bring.
I want you, as our new director, to support me in developing a culture that helps the organisation become more agile, delivery focused and adept at working in partnership with others. We have a key role to play regionally – including with the West of England Combined Authority – and you will have a high profile in that.
I hope you like what you’ve seen so far and that you explore the benefits of joining our new management team that’s looking to do things differently and where you will have the chance to shape the council’s journey and put your mark on things as we move forward.
Good luck with your application.
Dave Perry, Chief Executive
